Zones of Regulation
At Fishburn Primary School, the Zones of Regulation framework is used as a core part of the school’s approach to supporting children’s emotional development. Through this approach, pupils learn to identify their feelings and understand how different emotions fit into four colour-coded zones: blue, green, yellow, and red. Teachers incorporate the Zones into daily routines, classroom discussions, and visual aids, helping children to recognise their own emotional states and those of others. The school also teaches practical strategies for self-regulation—such as breathing techniques, movement breaks, or asking for help—empowering pupils to manage their emotions in a healthy and constructive way. This consistent approach fosters emotional awareness, resilience, and a more positive learning environment for all.
