Reporting a concern

Are you worried about a child?

At Fishburn Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility.

If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child, however small it may seem, please speak to us. You do not need to be certain that a child is being harmed before sharing a concern.

Contact the School Safeguarding Team

If your concern relates to a child at Fishburn Primary School, please contact the school and ask to speak to a member of our safeguarding team.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Mr Richard Parkin – Head of School

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)
Mrs Charlotte Sinclair – Assistant Headteacher / Early Years Lead

School telephone: 01740 620162
School email: fishburnadmin@edenacademytrust.co.uk

Concerns will be listened to, taken seriously and managed in accordance with the school's safeguarding procedures.

Contacting Children's Social Care

You can also report concerns about a child directly to Durham Children's Social Care.

Durham Children's Social Care – First Contact
03000 267 979

First Contact is the point of contact for concerns about the welfare or safety of a child or young person who lives in County Durham.

The same number can be used to access the Emergency Duty Team outside normal working hours.

Immediate Danger

If you believe that a child is in immediate danger or a crime is taking place, call 999.

You do not need to investigate

If a child tells you something that causes you concern, listen carefully and reassure them that they have done the right thing by speaking to you.

Do not question the child in detail or attempt to investigate the concern yourself.

Share the information promptly with the school safeguarding team, Children's Social Care or the police, as appropriate.

If you are worried about a child, please report it. It is always better to share a concern than to remain silent.
