Disability and Accessibility

At Fishburn Primary School, we are committed to removing barriers and providing an inclusive, welcoming environment for pupils, staff, parents, carers and visitors. We value individual differences and challenge discrimination and negative attitudes towards disability.

Supporting pupils with disabilities

We work with children, families and relevant professionals to understand individual needs and make reasonable adjustments so that pupils with disabilities can access learning and participate in school life.

Support is matched to individual needs and may include adapted resources, visual timetables, now-and-next boards, assistive technology, hearing equipment, ear defenders, movement breaks, quiet spaces and soft starts.

We consider accessibility when planning lessons, educational visits, clubs and other school activities.

Access to our school

Fishburn Primary School has:

• Level access to the main entrance.

• Ramped access to Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and the school lunch hall.

• A combination of level and ramped access to Nursery and Reception.

• Accessible toilets in the junior area and Early Years.

• A designated disabled parking area in the school car park.

Please contact the school office before your visit if you have particular access requirements so that we can discuss appropriate arrangements.

Our Accessibility Plan

Our Accessibility Plan sets out how we will:

• Increase access to the curriculum, including teaching, learning, educational visits and wider school activities.

• Improve the physical environment so that pupils with disabilities can access facilities and participate as fully as possible.

• Improve access to information, including providing information in accessible formats according to individual needs.

The plan covers a three-year period. We review progress annually and update actions as needs and circumstances change.
